It was a very windy crossing from Picton to Wellington and poor Tantalus got covered in salt as he travelled on the upper deck which is open to the sea spray.  He was absolutely filthy before the crossing anyway.
In Wellington we found some great guys who washed everything down, including the roof and solar panels, and even blacked the tyres.

We shall certainly use them again, thanks guys.

Next, the Wairarapa Balloon Festival.  This is 6.30 a.m. so I'm going to bore you with the pictures that I took to share with you

What do you think this one is ? ....

That one is called 'The Flighthouse'

About 15 we think.  It was a competition to drop a marker on a target.  Balloons from far and wide, the Owl and the Flighthouse from USA.

Later, we attended the evening presentation.  Sadly, it was too windy to put up the balloons.
A very large number of people were disappointed but safety had to be considered for the crowd and the balloons.
The flames in the pic are balloon burners in the positions the balloons would have been inflated.
Would have been very spectacular.
We'll try again next year.

We have seen diesel as low as 74 cents a litre.  79 works out at about 35 pence (UK)

On the right, another sign spotted near Carterton.  It reads,
Compost
full of worms

A bargain no doubt.

Visiting RoamNZ, that's also Grant and Smillie who live near Taupo

Much laughter, great food and um... a little wine !!!

Smillie's pavlova was just fabulous

At a great cafe called L’Arté (say L'art té, clever eh?)
we enjoyed good coffee and cakes and the artworks

What do you discuss with a unicorn?

This is part of a whole mosaic room complete with fireplace and tables and chairs.  Lovely and warm in the sun I should mention.

Taupo is the centre of steam generation in New Zealand and there are pipes everywhere.

Lots of hissing and hot air.  It can all be a bit daunting.

Pictures above from the lookout just off SH1, the main road,
Below; this IS the main road passing over the pipes in the photo above.
