While in Whangarei, quite by chance I spotted a sign for a fernery.  What a delight!  This little place is called Botanica, includes a conservatory and is free to visit.  Lovingly tended by a team of 3 and supported by the local council.  The staff and the place are a delight.  You'll find it on First Street with parking right outside.

The tree on the right goes right out of the roof by the way.

But you knew that didn't you?
Tawharanui, another of the Auckland Regional Parks.  Really very nice but probably not worth the journey!  It is a gated park supporting a kiwi colony but you'd be lucky to see one.

It's a gravel, slippery road and it had rained just before we travelled there.

That stuff gets everywhere.
During our next stop in Auckland, we were extremely privileged to get to see some of Barry Ross Smith's new work.  Here's a cheeky peek, though you can see them on his website.
These pictures have to be seen for real though.

Left; 'Clue' invites the viewer to consider what might have happened if the minotaur had found the string that Theseus used.  Clue by Barry Ross Smith

 'Icarus', why doesn't he fly?.

Obviously, I have borrowed this from Barry's website.  I have seen the painting and it is mind blowing.  Do click on it to visit his website and get yourself an invitation to his exhibition.

Kevin Kilsby not only produces amusing pottery, he is a great gardener.

Fabulous obelisk
Toe-toe Kevin also creates acrylic toetoe, pronounced toy-toy.  We call it pampas grass.  You can see it in his garden pic above centre.

There's lots of it in New Zealand.  This hillside on the left is at Waihi Beach

While at Waihi, our friend Pete (from Lowestoft) caught 2 lovely snapper.

They were very tasty.  Thanks Pete and Ann.

Now I hate to tell you guys, but "BEHIND YOU!"

It's a shame to own up really, but we stayed for the night at the marina at Sulphur Point (Tauranga) and our entertainment for the day was these guys.  Project Jonah

No story here, I just like these pics!
