Just a few pics of aires, these in France. It would be terrific if councils in New Zealand would adopt this idea. The French realise that by encouraging motorhomes into their towns and villages, people spend at the local shops and restaurants. In fact, when I am planning my travel in France, I choose my route to use these facilities. The only time I use campgrounds is when I want to use their facilities.
The ones
above are all free though there is a charge for a fill of water. 3 euros.
Left, (or pic 4 if you've printed this) costs 6
euros, which is collected by the tourism officer, and who will answer questions
about the village and suggest what to see. Water and power included.
I personally, am perfectly happy to pay a small
charge not to stay in a campground. Some aires
are a bit cramped in high season but those are usually just used for an
overnight stop.
All aires have a dump. Many of them have a drive over for grey water, so no messing about with pipes. Why aren't they like that in New Zealand? They do seem to be drive overs for the cattle effluent.
